The Power in a Gentleman

I have always been someone who believes and preaches that actions speak louder than words. I can’t tell you how true that is when a man genuinely behaves like a gentleman.

The other day I was with a group of people who were entering a venue. Several were piling in carrying equipment and gear (as was I) and battling with the swinging entrance door, so I stuck my foot out and held it open for the others the enter. All of the boys and men walked by, some uttering a low “thank you,” except for one man. He came up behind me and held the door because he was not going to go in before me even if I suggested he did. In fact, I had learned over time with him, that it’s pointless to even suggest it, because he simply won’t. He just wasn’t raised that way.

It surprises me time and time again how much I value that character trait in a man, but when I see it in action, I realize that I really do. My dad is a gentleman like this and it is probably my most favorite thing about him.

A man who respects women because he chooses, because it’s who he is … a man who respects me, not because I demand it, or because he’s trying to impress me, but because it’s just who he is and it’s what he believes in, is a man who has my attention.

So grateful for the few gentlemen still out there. Wish there were more.
