I had the best Thanksgiving this year. I missed my dad so much, but otherwise had a wonderful thanksgiving.
The morning started out perfect and set the stage for the rest of the day.
As I watched my daughter and her cousins and other players and their families run up and down a soccer field, my heart swelled with love as I committed deep within me to do this every Thanksgiving. Playing games/sports together is such a rich family activity. There is lots of laughter and encouragement, teamwork and cooperation … simply some valuable bonding.
The rest of the day was pretty chill. We ate my mom’s house. I contributed mashed potatoes, 2 different kinds of stuffing, corn and ice cream. Dinner was delicious. Afterwards, the kids decorated sugar cookies. Then I went home and took a nap and we just chilled the rest of the day. I played games with my kids, worked on a puzzle with Sidney, decorated for Christmas and even browsed Dillards online for shoes and dresses. I didn’t buy anything, but I haven’t even browsed like that in a really long time. It was sorta therapeutic. I did find a few dresses that I like, but would never buy them without trying them on first. The dress and shoe inventory in my closet needs a serious overhaul.
Ryker slept over, which is always fun for the kids. We watched a short Christmas cartoon before bed and Eddie fell asleep in my lap. Again, as I tucked my kiddos, plus one, into bed for the night, I couldn’t help but count my many blessings. Jentri offered the prayer, which was suiting considering her heart is one that is pure with gratitude. She thanked Heavenly Father for a great day and for family and for good food, and for happiness. She asked Him, as she always does, to help those struggling with COVID and to relieve our country from it. She asked Him to protect our 94 year old friend, Shirley, from it and to help her son-in-law who was suffering from its effects. Then, as I snuggled everyone in, Coltrin smiled up at me and said, “I sure do love you, Mom.” and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
Life is good. I am so spoiled in love and will be forever grateful to my loving Heavenly Father for allowing me these blessings.
