Loving The Lord More

“When you love the Lord more than you love your spouse, your capacity to love will increase, and you will increasingly love your spouse even more.” – Russell M. & Wendy W. Nelson

Do you believe in promises from a prophet of God? Do you believe in his intellect? In his reasoning? In his vision? In his experience? I do.

I believe implementing the quote referenced above into our relationships can heal all broken relationships and more deeply increase the bond of those already healthy.

Our commandment is to love God with all of our might, mind and strength and to not have any other God before Him. This includes our spouses or any other significant people in our lives. We love God first and allow for His love the help us grow in love, providing a greater ability to love those we care about in our lives.

I have found that this is not always easy to do as you might think. I don’t like to hurt people – anybody, and especially those I love. I hurt when they hurt, and I hurt even more when it is me causing their hurt. It is almost immobilizing for me. But I am finding, that if I am to love God more than them, sometimes it means allowing others to hurt and trusting that the Savior will wrap them up in His arms and provide a better understanding and healing than I ever could have. I have to trust that. I have to be obedient, love God and let the rest go. Sometimes it is so hard to do, but I believe in His promises and I want a greater capacity to love. His understanding is so much grander than ours. I can hope in that.

Forever grateful.
