I enjoy so many things about going to church! Usually, when I am attending alone, I sit clear in the back. I do this for a few reasons. One, I want to allow for other families with children the better seats. I think the Spirit is felt better by the youth when fewer distractions are present. The closer to the front you can get, the fewer the distractions. Two, I like to sit in the back because I, personally, like the distractions. Sometimes the adorable little babies and chubby toddler faces are what help me to feel the Spirit. So, the way I see it … it’s a win-win.
I like the hymns. There are so many that bring me closer to my Savior, and even those hymns that I’m not familiar with are still able to help me feel the Spirit. Today’s Sacrament hymn was a good example of this. I had only heard that particular hymn a couple of times. It’s rhythms weren’t typical and it felt a little odd in cadence. But as I sort of sang along and wondered at it, I looked up at the chorister just in time to see her wipe a tear from off her cheek. This song may not have been particularly moving to me, but seeing that it meant something special to someone else brought respect and gratitude for it.
Sunday School. I love Sunday School! Brother Juarez is our teacher. His mind is fascinating! I’m pretty sure I could just sit and listen to him talk about the doctrine for hours on end. There are so many highly intelligent and well versed people in that class. The Spirit is so strong as different individuals share their insights into the lessons. I love the passion other people have for learning about the Gospel. It really is where our focus and attention should be in our learning and living.
Forever grateful to get to be a part of it!
