Eddie’s Baptism

I just realized that I never wrote about Eddie’s baptism!

Eddie was baptized on May 7 at 11 am. It was a sweet and tender event with just our close family there. I gave a talk on Baptism where I tried to emphasize that baptism and all other choices we make to follow the Savior are built upon having love for the Savior in our hearts, and that if we live with and act out of love for the Savior, allow it to be our sounding board for choices and decisions, then we won’t go wrong in our lives. I also tried to emphasize that repentance is an ongoing stepping stone to learning and growing and getting better in all that we do. It is our friend, not our foe. I also challenged Eddie to pay attention to how he felt right after baptism, to see if he could feel the heavens rejoicing like they did for Christ when He was baptized.

Coltrin gave a talk on the Holy Ghost that was simple, to the point, and very sweet. The spirit was strong.

Jentri sang a solo that was also soft and sweet.

Sidney gave the opening prayer. Anja was the chorister. Diane played the piano, and my mom gave the closing prayer. It was so much fun to have everyone there get to be a part of the program.

Eddie’s countenance was so much brighter after baptism. His smile was so big and light radiated from within him. We had a luncheon afterwards and when I suggested we offer prayer over the food, Eddie volunteered to say it. I recognized that as his first step into taking on the responsibility of following the Savior. Eddie normally refuses to offer the prayer when asked. I love that he was willing to step up and fill that role. He will be a great leader throughout his life. His heart is good and he recognizes those who need a friend and extends himself to them. All of my kids do this and I love them so much for it! They are good people.

I cry at all baptisms. I can’t help it. The overwhelming love that is felt from the heavens at them moves me to tears every time. We have been blessed greatly! God’s love for us is beyond anything I can describe. He cares so much and rejoices with our gains and cries with us in our heartaches. He is with us all the way, 100% in it with us. He is there.

Forever grateful!
