“Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word.” v21
My kids and I read that verse last night. When I asked them what it meant, right away Coltrin said, “We need to understand His words before we try to go teach them.” We discussed that understanding isn’t just understanding what is said and in which order and by whom etc…. But instead, understanding is a conversion in the heart; it is felt. I took that moment in our scripture study together to share with my kids a secret of mine.
Information is abundant for our use and discovery. We have the internet filled with resources for us. I can study Come Follow Me without even picking up the manual. I can watch YouTube after YouTube on it and learn many useful insights. However … NOTHING replaces actually reading the words of the scriptures. There is a spirit in reading the scriptures that cannot be replicated by any other source. There is faith in them. There is effort in them; dedication, hope, seeking, exploration. And so when I want to feel something, when I want to really understand with my heart, when I want to know my Heavenly Father is there … I pick up my scriptures and read. It’s not as much about what the words on the page are saying, but more about the spirit that is felt by them.
Forever grateful to share secrets.
