Inspired Thoughts From President Thompson

He taught about prophets tonight, opening the evening with a request to find a scripture that explains how we feel about prophets. As I scanned my scriptures, in some way I could relate almost every highlighted section to the prophet. I finally settled on one in 3 Nephi 13:8: “… for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him.” This made me think of General Conference and how, if we prepare ourselves, we are able to hear the messages we need to hear through the prophet. The Lord knows what we need, and often, He relays those things through His servants.

Later in the lesson, discussion had settled on the idea of true doctrine and how it affects our lives. People commented on the stability and peace it offers us in various ways. All true comments. It made me think, though, how having that knowledge and stability also frees us up to better serve, help, and lead others to the truth. That is the intended work and the blessing and responsibility of having and knowing the truth. That is why the Lord gives it to us, to bless the lives of others, which requires action. We are not meant to learn it for ourselves and simply hold on to it (that is the example in the scriptures of the talents returned without any gains made, which did not please the Lord), instead, we are meant to share it and bring others back with us.

Forever grateful for the blessings in my life the Lord has seen me fit to be entrusted with.
