This is one of my favorite sections in the Doctrine and Covenants. Here is how I used its references in my personal life today:
Verse 36: “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” Today something happened with one of my kids that required some in depth analysis and problem solving. We talked about friends and feelings, angst, aggression, reaction, motivation, drive and channeling. As I came across this scripture this afternoon, however, it made me think we were looking in all of the wrong places, no, actually, not that we are looking in the wrong places, but just that we aren’t looking in the best place. Search the scriptures. Our answers are there.
Verse 37: It’s interesting how the Savior says this scripture. First He says, “Behold.” Behold isn’t just an introduction to other words. It has significance in and of itself. The talk by President Uchtdorf, Behold The Man, explains more of how that term is an invitation. In verse 37, it prefaces “the wounds which pierced my side and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet.” And that’s all it says bout them, that’s it. “Behold the wounds which pierced my side and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet…” And then He goes on to say, “be faithful.” We are left to ponder what exactly is meant by this.
I’ve always stood by my belief that usually if scriptures can’t be thought, they can be felt. So often we need to feel their meaning. This scripture feels to me like He is saying, “I have gone before you; I have led the way.” It is said in exposure, in vulnerability, in assurance. Behold The Savior.
Forever grateful!
