Recently Meaningful Talks

There are so many wonderful talks out there to learn from. Like scriptures, I find that they speak to me differently at different points in my life. Here are a few recently meaningful talks to me:

  1. Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence – Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. This has been a good reminder to me that when God reveals something to me, I need to hold to that moment of revelation and knowing. This is hard for me sometimes to do. I am a wimp, but Elder Holland reminds us to hang on to what we know. It goes along with Sister Wendy Watson Nelson saying that the way through difficult transitions in life is to hang on to what you know to be true, and also with a dear scripture to me, D&C 6: 23 “Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?” I need to stop being so wimpy and have faith in what has already been revealed to me at times in my life. If it was truth then, it is truth now. I have had this reminded to me about difficult decisions I’ve made in the past, as well as things that are yet to come in the future. Elder Holland also reminds that once the Lord has manifested something to you, He will provide a way, that we need not worry or fret. I hope I can allow this part more into my life.
  2. Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear – President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Fear is disabling. It holds us back from growth. It enslaves us. And it is not from God. There are so many things to fear in my life right now. This talk reminds me to choose faith over fear.
  3. Waiting Upon the Lord – Thy Will Be Done – Robert D. Hales. If you know anything at all about me, you know that I am not a patient person. I like efficiency. I like purpose. I like direction. I like progression. So imagine my angst at having to wait! I don’t always understand the Lord’s timing, but this talk helps to remind me to trust that my Heavenly Father is guiding my way.
  4. The Gift of Grace – President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. I can get nowhere in my spiritual progression of becoming on my own. I am not in control of this. Every gain in becoming whole to complete potential is only by the grace of God. Every single one. I MUST surrender my will to His. In accordance with President Uchtdorf’s words, “I have tried to understand the Savior’s Atonement with my finite mind, and the only explanation I can come up with is this: God loves us deeply, perfectly, and everlastingly.” He reminds us in Ether 12:27, “my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me…”
  5. By Divine Design – Elder Ronald A. Rasband. God is in the details. This talk reminds me that the Lord orchestrates our paths and that people and experiences in our lives happen for a reason. The Lord is the Master Teacher and will teach us through whichever means is necessary. He will speak our language to teach us. Maybe He has decided that it is time you finally learn about love, real love, and so He has brought certain people and experiences into your life? Maybe. Or maybe it is time that we better understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Even when we don’t understand the design, we can know and trust that it is divine, and someday, we will see it with the clarity that the Lord does. But for now, we must trust.

Always and forever grateful to be a part of it!
