If you ever come across a period of time where you have a hard time getting one of your children to want to reach the scriptures, offer to give her a back rub while she does. This is what has motivated Jentri lately. And I’m a firm believer in whatever works. I know the Spirit speaks to those who read the scriptures, and I definitely want her to know what that feels like for her, so yes, I will rub her back while she reads.
Tonight after we read and were preparing for prayers, I asked my kids the customary pre-prayer questions, “What are you grateful for today?” “What would you like to include in prayer today?” The Spirit spoke to me as I heard their replies:
“The world.”
“Our happiness.”
“The scriptures and the peace they bring us.”
Lately I have been engaged in some serious study of the Second Coming and the tribulation that will precede it. We will be in chaotic times. As I listened to my kids pray and felt their sincere gratitude for the simple things in life, I realized that it will be this gratitude that will maintain us through the difficult things. The world may be falling apart around us, but we can still find peace in gratitude for all of it.
Forever grateful.
