Freedom and Joy

I watched my young children dance and play on the lawn of the Payson temple the other day. To some passing by, it may have seemed irreverent, but to me, it represented freedom. I couldn’t help but watch them dance and wrestle freely and think of how this was exactly what Jesus Christ suffered, bled and died for … freedom.

That freedom isn’t conditional. There are no requirements that we love Him or follow Him. He died and secured us freedom without any expectations towards us whatsoever. This gift He gave in love, in hope and in humility, knowing some would not ever recognize it, that they would take it for granted.

I see it. I see it in choices I make for myself. I see it in choices others make for themselves. But mostly I see it in my children as they carelessly play with a joyful gratitude across the Savior’s front lawn. Oh how His heart must enjoy their love of freedom.

Forever grateful.
