As I was reading my scriptures just now, I came across something that made me smile.
Alma 42:24 “For behold, justice exerciseth all his demands, and also mercy claimeth all which is her own; and thus, none but the truly penitent are saved.”
Did you notice that justice is male and mercy is female? This made me smile.
There is something beautiful in God’s plan and creation in the way that male and female work together. It is not for a second that I believe we are all meant to be the same. No, instead we are different with the intent of working together to achieve all purposes. From my own opinions, observations and perspectives, men are more on the justice side of things. I think of Adam’s strong determination to obey in all things no matter what. He was determined to lead with his head.
Women, on the other hand, are softer and more gentle and forgiving. Mercy suites them well. Think of Eve and her vision and the depth of her decision to take us all into this journey of growth. There was much feeling that drove that decision. She led with her heart and the confidence and knowledge that only comes through the heart.
Together, they make the perfectly balanced pair of justice and mercy. This is divine and intentional. God’s ultimate plan is not one of solo existence, but is functional in interactions. We need each other.
I think it is beautiful. And it makes me smile. I am always in awe of the wisdom and love of our Heavenly Father. There is so much more for us to learn and discover about Him and His ways. I can’t wait!
