My Most Recent Parenting Stance

Gaming at our house is something that happens all of the time. My kids will brave the early morning hours if it means they get to game, but they won’t stop to feed themselves, or to respond to me when I’m talking to them, or to even get to the bathroom when they need to. But the thing that pushes me over the edge is when they complain and throw a fit about stopping to do simple work jobs I ask them to do. So here’s how I am trying to remedy that: I took all devices and remotes (tv too) and stashed them away in my bedroom. Then I told the kids they could earn them back when they could show me that they know how to work, ha ha, yep, I’m the mean mom.

They asked what they needed to do, but I’m leaving it up to them to define what is work and what is enough work. I don’t expect that it’ll work perfectly, but at least my kids know what is important to me for them. They know what I expect their priorities to be. They know I expect them to know how to work.

I believe in tough love. Some days I have to be the bad guy, ha ha, but I’m okay with that if it provides them with a more functional future.

Forever grateful to get to have those little stinkers in my life!!!
