Fearless, Like Eve

I feel like the luckiest person alive! I feel so blessed. My heart swells and overflows with happiness at the person my daughter is. We were at Dairy Queen last night and she leaves me to go purchase something in the grocery store. I can see that the man at the register is less than happy to be there working, his countenance makes it clear. As I make small talk with him, he shares that he is scheduled to work everyday but one for the next two weeks and that his feet and back hurt already. He clearly is not a happy camper. Just as he hands my blizzard over to me, Anja walks up carrying two packs of M&M’s and stretches one out to the guy. She simply says, “Hey I just bought these. Want some M&Ms?” She smiled at him in his surprise and then he took them, said ‘thanks’ and smiled back. She had no idea that he had just been complaining to me about his misery. As we walked outside she tells me that she just felt like she needed to buy some M&Ms to hand out to people.

This is the same daughter who told me of how she felt the Spirit at the Family History Center the other day while researching a particular ancestor.

And the same daughter who just yesterday told me that I was the most faithful person she knew. I had been singing a Christian song that belts the chorus “I believe”. So naturally, I’m cleaning and belting the chorus along , “I believe” and she simple replies with, “I know. You are the most faithful person I know.”

That statement scares me a little, but to know that she knows that I love God makes me feel like I’ve actually done something right in parenting. I have always worn that on my sleeves for that purpose alone – that my kids will see it, that they will know, because I know that they will need to rely on it and remember it at points in their lives. I have been given way too much in my life by the Savior to ever hide it.

My daughter is a warrior. She has a spirit of overcoming fear and rejection to reach out to others who might be in need. She has an open mind to the Spirit and doesn’t need to know why when she is prompted to act – she just does it. Fearless, like Eve. She is such an example to me. I am so grateful she is mine.
